Advantages of not keeping your room clean
Introduction
We have all heard our parents, especially our mothers, tell us to clean our rooms. Even though, from our perspective, our room is the best place in the world to be, our mothers come into our room and magically find something to complain about. According to our parents, having a messy room is a bad habit and can have negative effects on us later in life. They simply don't know about boys' hostel rooms. If they saw one, I'm sure they would be shocked.
And now comes the cleaning of our rooms during our holidays. They would tell us to clean spots that we would never even touch in our whole lives in our room. Anyways, cleaning our room has always been a sort of hell for us teenagers because children listen and obey everything their parents say to them. We'll leave the case for adults because adults are adults after all, and they are not meant to listen to anyone. That leaves us with teenagers who are offended and aggravated by anyone who says anything positive or negative about them (except friends). They are super lazy to clean their rooms, and keeping their room tidy feels unnecessary, or more appropriately, useless to them. But some teenagers are a different species; they like to maintain their room and clean it daily.
Scientific Study
Thankfully, a study conducted at the University of Minnesota has given us proof that we can use to prove to our parents that living in a messy room can actually enhance a person's creativity.
The subjects were divided into two groups: one group was in a messy room, and the other group was in a tidy and clean room. Both groups were asked to solve a problem using the same resources in their respective rooms. Of course, the tools were all the same, but in the messy room, they were laying all over the place, while in the clean room, they were in a specific space or spot. Surprisingly enough, the subjects in the messy rooms found more efficient, quicker, and creative ways to resolve the problem.
Conclusion
For all the parents who are still arguing that a room should be kept neat and clean and believe that a tidy room is a sign of an organized mindset, I will answer with a quote which goes as follows:
"If a cluttered desk or cluttered room is a sign of a cluttered mind, then what is an empty desk or empty room?"
Thank you.
